2020 Record Year for Drug Overdose Deaths

The National Center for Health Statistics, Centers for Diseaase Control and Prevention released provisional drug over dose death counts for 2020, and the picture is pretty grim. More than 93,000 people died from overdose during 2020 compared to just over 72,000 in 2019.

The CDC predicts a 35.4% increase in Maine overdose deaths, and ten states, including Vermont, Kentucky, South Carolina, West Virginia, Louisiana, California, Tennessee, Nebraska, Arkansas, and Virginia, are predicted at least a 40% rise in drug overdose deaths from the previous 12-month span.
